Jessica Sanchez, the 17-year-old California native who won over American Idol viewers in 2011 with her diva-worthy vocal range — released her debut single, “Tonight” featuring Ne-Yo recently. Her single is now enjoying heavy rotation on radio and TV Channels nationwide and also charting Top 1 -5 on radio station all over the Philippines. Jessica’s Tonight ft. Me, You & the Music, Sanchez’s high-energy, beat-soaked debut album, released yesterday, May 14 on MCA Music (Universal Music Philippines). Me, You & the Music features production by Benny Benassi, Harvey Mason Jr., Ne-Yo, Rodney Jerkins, Stargate & Toby Gad.

Born and raised in Chula Vista, California, Sanchez has worked on honing her vocal versatility for almost her entire life. She started singing when she was two and lists Mariah Carey, Etta James, and Ray Charles among her musical influences. At age ten she performed Aretha Franklin’s “Respect” on an episode of Showtime at the Apollo. A year later, she competed on the premiere season of America’s Got Talent, reaching the wild-card round before getting cut. Over the next few years, Sanchez performed at venues both large and small (including a 2008 San Diego Chargers game) and released a number of covers (such as Etta James’s “I’d Rather Go Blind”) through an independent record label. After nailing her American Idol audition in 2011, Sanchez climbed to the final two and landed her deal with Interscope soon after the season finale. Diving into the recording of her debut last summer, Sanchez took a break from the studio to tear through a rousing, choir-backed rendition of Marvin Gaye’s “All I Need to Get By” at the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

A Messenger: Colton Dixon’s Debut Release
by Len Armea
American Idol Season 11 Finalist Colton Dixon is here in Manila to promote his debut album entitled “A Messenger” as well as to show his full support to fellow AI finalist Jessica Sanchez at her upcoming concert at the Big Dome on February 14.
The 21-year-old rocker from Tennessee, who’s known for his Christian music, has 13 songs from his album distributed in the Philippines by MCA Music. His two singles “Never Gone” and “You Are” are both doing well in the music charts.
In fact, Never Gone sold 21, 000 units during the first week of release and got an instant success on iTunes Christian and Gospel Singles chart, Billboard’s Christian Digital Songs and Christian/Gospel Digital song charts. Meanwhile, You Are also hit #1 on the same charts and was selected as USA Today’s Song of the Week upon its digital release October 30.
Colton, who looks up to Chris Daughtry, Coldplay, Lifehouse, Switchfoot as his musical influences, is proud of his debut album because it is through this that he was able to fulfill his unexpected calling.
“We’ve all been deep in that valley, and I know what I’ve been through. Whenever I’m in those dark places, I feel that God has pulled me through, and I want to inspire others by telling them about my experiences. That’s the central message of A Messenger. Those who never saw me on Idol will get to know where my heart lies pretty fast when they listen. Musically, I also think that it’s important to present a vibe that has a unique and fresh energy and point of view.”
Colton also acknowledges his Filipino fans for their support to his music career. He even quipped that based on his Facebook fan page, the most numbers of his supporters came from the Philippines.
“Thank you, guys, for being so awesome!”
Other songs included in his album, which he mostly co-wrote with other respected songwriters in the music industry, are “Noise”, “I’ll Be The Light,” “Love has Come for Me,” “Scars,” “Rise,” “Where My Heart Goes,” “This is Who I Am,” “In and Out of Time,” “Let Them See You,” and “The Shape of Your Love.”
A Messenger by Colton Dixon is now available in CDs at Astroplus and Odyssey Music & Video or online via iTunes or MyMusicStore. Album released under MCA Music.

Colton Dixon, the American Idol finalist is showing his full support to Pinoy pride colleague Jessica Sanchez by performing at the latter’s upcoming Big Dome Valentine concert. This much-awaited concert date will serve as a highlight occasion in mirroring the success of their respective solo recordings ever since making waves during the 11th season of American Idol.
Colton will release his debut album “A Messenger” here in the Philippines in time for his upcoming concert with Jessica Sanchez. A MESSENGER boasts two singles that both topped the Christian and Gospel Digital Sales. The songs “You Are” and “Never Gone” best represent the album distributed in the Philippines by MCA Music. Their uplifting messages and complementing melodies provide Colton perfect avenues to share his musicality and character.

“Never Gone” in particular sold 21,000 units during just the first week of release. This favorable response made it into an instant success on the iTunes Christian and Gospel Singles chart, Billboard’s Christian Digital Songs, and Christian/Gospel Digital Songs charts. The anthemic “You Are”, which like “Never Gone” also hit the top spot on the said charts, was selected as USA Today’s Song of the Week last October. “A Messenger”, an album Colton did with a number of notable songwriters and producers, contains 11 tracks showcasing his trademark balance of vocal tenderness and intensity, as well as his energetic piano playing and, of course, his sense of hope and inspiration. He co-penned with mega- producer Busbee (Daughtry, P!nk, Switchfoot, Smash Mouth) “You Are” and the power rock “Noise.” Renowned Nashville-based songwriter Zac Maloy (Daughtry, Plain White T’s) is featured on the power anthem “I’ll Be The Light,” while Dave Bassett (Shinedown) co-wrote with him “This Is Who I Am.” He also asked for help in writing the songs “Never Gone,” and “In and Out of Time.”
“Shape Of Your Love” is added as a bonus track in Colton’s Philippine CD release.
The album aptly titled A Messenger will also be available digitally via iTunes Philippines and Mymusicstore.com.ph
As for Jessica, her runner-up AI finish (a record for someone ‘saved’ by the judges) is equaled with a special “American Idol Season 11 Highlights” EP featuring her voice as delivered through the most memorable of her performances during that remarkable Idol run.
It features five tracks led by her finale song “Change Nothing” which, though generally perceived as inferior to that of Philip Philips’ “Home”, still ends up delightfully representational of her heaven-sent voice. The BluJays, the name attributed to her die-hard fans worldwide, must be agreeing with this. Below is Jessica’s Change Nothing performed at the American Idol 2012 (Finals) courtesy of JayTin09.
Perhaps giving the short list its peak point is her powerful take of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You”, patterned of course after that famed rendition of the late great Whitney Houston. The other three numbers are her versions of Beyonce’s “Sweet Dreams” and Jazmine Sullivan’s “Stuttering”, and his moving duet with Top three finisher Joshua Ledet for the track “I Knew You Were Waiting for Me.”

But since Jessica was a half-blood Filipino and indeed a top calibre singer, Pinoys were so blinded of what other contestants can do. We focus too much on her and didn’t give other contestants the attention for a better judgement of their talent. In my opinion, we were being bias and unaffair to other contestants that are as talented as Jessica is.

In my own opinion, there is no discrimination in the #idolfinale.
As a Pinoy, I wanted Jessica to win and I do believe that she is a great singer. No doubt that she can hit the highest note and sing like the other legendary divas.
But on the other hand, Phillip Phillips is a very talented…
