I Love Acoustic 5: Getting To Know More About Sabrina’s Acoustic Music
Sabrina’s radiant smile and uplifting personality greeted us at the blogger’s night held at MCA Music Office last 30 Jan 2013. She’s perky and giggly, it’s not my first time to meet her but it’s my first time to ask questions, interact and get to know more of her. The discussion with the music blogger group went lively and fun to up for laugh. Amazing how Sabrina just go with the flow and in the mood for a good laugh.
I Love Acoustic 5, Asia’s Acoustic Sweetheart’s latest album under MCA Music was introduced by the Terrified music video (originally by Katharine McPhee and Zachary Levi), the album’s carrier single and the collaboration song with Asiansation Christian Bautista (also a multi-platinum artist in Asia like Sabrina). She performed few songs for us: Make Believe (an original song not included in the said album), covered Dan Seals’ I’d Really Love To See You Tonight in bossa sound, Korean song translated to Filipino lyrics Saranghae and Oh Boy. Oh Boy stands out among the rest, the only original song she’d written for I Love Acoustic 5, first time in any I Love Acoustic album. Video below courtesy of mcamusic.

With her multi-platinum successes in Asia, I Love Acoustic 5 is dedicated to Sabrina’s Indonesian supporters and fans, her simple way of gratitude and giving back. The 18-track album is an interpretation of the latest hits in her signature acoustic style including the popular Indonesian song Could It Be (originally recorded by Indonesian pop star Raisa) translated into English and collaborated with Thai saxophonist Koh Mr. Saxman. Songs included in the album and its design were both agreed upon by Sabrina and MCA Music. It’s has a colorful digitally embellished scrapbook layout design, an evidence of Sabrina’s creativity and love for her craft.
She admitted she don’t arranged songs for herself yet she’s extremely positive about learning it soon and she vowed to write more original songs as she dreamed of releasing an all-original album and to perform onstage in full concert soon. She’s inspired to create songs from her own experiences and thoughts and willl certainly share them in her future albums.
With her guitar, she’s ready to play music, her voice is her instrument. It’s not only because of the amplified acoustic guitar but her natural sound is her best weapon for a truly effective acoustic performance proven at the 2012 Awit Awards as Most Downloaded Artist by I-Gateway Mobile Philippines Inc. and a Special Citation for International Achievement for achieving Gold and Platinum in Southeast Asia for her “I Love Acoustic” albums at the ASAP Platinum Circle Awards by hit ABS-CBN variety show ASAP.

“I Love Acoustic 5” debuted at #1 on Astroplus and #2 on Odyssey album charts. Aside from the Philippines, it is also released in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. Digitally, it is available on iTunes where the album is currently on the charts of iTunes Thailand and Indonesia. “I Love Acoustic 5” includes hit songs interpreted by Sabrina in her signature acoustic style which enthralled Asian listeners. Songs like: “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” (originally by Taylor Swift), “Call Me Maybe” (Carly Rae Jepsen), “Payphone” (Maroon 5), “What Makes You Beautiful” (One Direction), “Starships” (Nicki Minaj), “Somebody That I Used To Know” (Gotye), “Part of Me” (Katy Perry), “One Thing” (One Direction), “Glad You Came” (The Wanted), “I Won’t Give Up” (Jason Mraz), “We Found Love” (Rihanna), “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” (Kelly Clarkson), “A Thousand Years” (Christina Perri), “Domino” (Jessie J) and “If I Die Young” (The Band Perry).

Asia’s Acoustic Sweetheart SABRINA continues to delight Asian audiences with the release of “I Love Acoustic 5” in over 175,000 albums sold all over Asia of her “I Love Acoustic” series. This is her second album in 2012 after taking a break from “I Love Acoustic” with the concept album “Acoustic Love Notes” her collaboration with radio/ TV host Joe D’Mango which spawned the hits “Somewhere Down The Road”, “Sa Bawat Paghinga” (theme of GMA Korean series “Angel’s Temptation” and “One True”. Music video below courtesy of mcamusic.

“I Love Acoustic 5”, like her previous albums which are multi-platinum successes in countries like Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines, includes current hit songs interpreted by Sabrina in her signature acoustic style which enthralled Asian listeners.

It also features the carrier single “Terrified” (originally by Katharine McPhee & Zachary Levi), her duet with Asiansation Christian Bautista —- another Filipino artist who made a name in Southeast Asia like Sabrina.

“In last year’s “Awit Awards” (Philippines’ version of The Grammy’s), I had the pleasure of sharing the “International Achievement” award with Christian Bautista. As we waited to be called onstage to accept our award, we were able to chat a bit backstage. I remember Christian saying that maybe we could do a duet for our Southeast Asian fans someday. That was one of the highlights of my first Awit Awards night experience. That “someday” is NOW. Happy, excited, delighted, honored, grateful – I feel these all at once because of this collaboration, Sabrina said.

Sabrina also collaborated with famous Thai saxophonist Koh Mr. Saxman for the single “Could It Be”- a popular Indonesian song originally recorded by Indonesian pop star Raisa. The single was translated into English to be included in Sabrina’s album as requested by her Indonesian fans.

“Well, early on, way back after the first “I Love Acoustic” album became successful in Indonesia, we wanted to surprise my Indonesian Sabrinatics by doing an acoustic cover of a famous Indonesian song. It took us 3 years but they have finally found the perfect song to use. I was really pleased when they made me listen to the song. It was catchy, the message is so me! So I was able to easily own the song, if you know what I mean, as I could totally relate to it. Now, I am looking forward to how my Indonesian Sabrinatics would react to this surprise,” Sabrina said.

For the first time in any “I Love Acoustic” album, an original song is included, “Oh Boy” written by Sabrina herself.

“’Oh Boy’ is actually the prequel of my other composition ‘One True Love’ included in “Acoustic Love Notes”. It talks about that magical moment when you know in your heart that you’ve already fallen for someone but you feel like he is never going to love you back. Your heart and mind struggle but in the end, your heart wins. So even when you know there’s a chance you’ll end up getting hurt, you still hope that he’d give you the chance to show him how much you can love him and that the two of you have a shot at forever,” Sabrina said.

With Asia’s Acoustic Sweetheart now writing her own songs, will we see more original songs in her future albums?

“Yes! That’s definitely something I’m exploring right now…creating songs from my own experiences and thoughts, and I’ll certainly share ‘em in my future albums,” Sabrina shared.

With all her success especially in Southeast Asia, two words come to her mind: endless gratitude.

“I have never expected nor imagined that I would get support from people let alone those who are outside my country. Their support is what keeps me going. And for as long as they wanna hear music from me, I will never stop doing what I do. I love them all so much, they know that,” Sabrina said.

“I Love Acoustic 5”, the new album from Asia’s Acoustic Sweetheart SABRINA, is now out in CDs at leading record stores under MCA Music. It is also available worldwide online via iTunes and www.mymusicstore.com.ph. To download Sabrina’s music on your mobile phones in the Philippines, text SABRINA to 3456.

The first time I’ve seen Sabrina was when she front act Richard Poon in a mall show, performing with her guitar in Megamall three years ago. I’ve met her also in Got Friday’s @ Teatrino presscon and encountered her often in awarding events, a clear manifestation of her talent as a multi-awarded artist now tagged as the Asia’s Acoustic Sweetheart. Recently, Sabrina reached the Double Platinum status for her album “I Love Acoustic 4” in Indonesia.
VerJube Photographics had the chance to cover Sabrina’s launch of her 5th album held in Eastwood Mall Open Park last 13 July 2012, thanks to MCA Music for the opportunity. Sabrina shared the stage with Anj Sulit, the composer of the song they performed entitled ‘Again.’ Adding 3 more original songs beautifully written in the album are “One True Love” and “Over For Now But Not Forever” (composed by Sabrina) and “Sa Bawat Paghinga” (penned by award-winning composer Toto Sorioso).
“Acoustic Love Notes” is a collaboration album with host-DJ/ television personality Joe D’ Mango who graced the launch. She read his love advices onstage before Sabrina sang, it’s like watching situations of the heart through songs, such a wonderful treat for the romantics and the hopeless romantics.
The album’s carrier single is “Somewhere Down The Road” originally by Barry Manilow. Other cover songs included in the album: Brian McKnight’s “One Last Cry”, “Cry” by Mandy Moore, Christian Bautista’s “The Way Look At Me”, “Can You Help Me” by Usher, Mikaila’s “The Art of Letting Go”, “I Don’t Want You To Go” by Lani Hall, Brandy’s “Have You Ever”, “Someone Like You” by Adele, Tamia’s “Officially Missing You”, “If Love Is Blind” by Tiffany, Jann Arden’s “Insensitive” and “Without Me” by Clair Marlo.

It’s my pleasure to meet Sabrina personally after the show with Joe D’ Mango. I would love to see her again soon. Congratulations Sabrina! More photos from Sabrina’s Acoustic Love Notes Album Launch HERE courtesy of VerJube Photographics.
“Acoustic Love Notes” is now out under MCA Music (Universal Music Philippines) at leading record stores nationwide and online via www.MyMusicStore.com.ph.
