It seems like it has been an annual festival of music during every Philippine Independence Day comprising acclaimed OPM and local artists performing for a free party and freedom celebration. Fat Salt & Flame Signifies Sandwich’s 15 Years of Rock Music
Pinoy rock band Sandwich performed to introduce their brand new release Fat Salt & Flame launched at the CentrisWalk last 12 Apr 2013. The album launch was a success. They’re geared towards audience satisfaction of a guaranteed outstanding performance onstage for all the songs from the album including old hits like Selos, Procastinator, Sabotage, Cheese Factory and Nahuhulog.
We’re happy to see our photo set of this event posted HERE on Soupstar Entertainment Inc.’s www.soupstar.ph.
We also attended the band’s mini presscon to get to know more about the band, thanks to Ms. Tricia Pablo. Sandwich has been very conversable and vocal among the bands I’ve seen.
Fat Salt & Flame is an album with monotone design scheme, packed with song lyrics and band portraits. Its a 9-track album, the 7th release, 1st recorded it live, written, arranged, performed and produced by Sandwich. The album title Fat Salt & Flame represents the elements of good food as it interprets their love for food especially during the group’s tour and travel.
With the luxury of time, album’s recording process include rehearsing a total of 25 to 30 songs, tried and performed it live, choose the best out of it, captured the its energy more than the feel and listened to all of it over and over again to attain perfection.
Get to see the band’s documentation and in the making of Fat, Salt & Flame and fab shoes through the hashtag #sandwichrecording or in this LINK. Speaking of fab shoes, notice Raym’s tangerine kicks, they’re beautiful.
Album highlights:
1. The song Mayday which Sandwich produce for the indie movie Ang Nawawala has been part of its soundtrack, a film by Marie Jamora.
2. Bassist Myrene Academia and guitarist Mong vocals on the song New Romancer.
3. Razorback’s Tirso Ripol played a guitar solo on Manhid.
4. Fat Salt & Flame is an instrumental track, one of the few things their record label Polyeast Records trusted them to create their set of music for this album, its their signature sound taken into new heights.
5. The album has no unifying concept but it has elements of distinctive tones and melodies that have always been the heart of Sandwich.
Sandwich celebrates 15 years, they’ve broken the rules and go on to develop their own style. The band were unified by their passion, camaraderie, hard work and shared musical influences. They’ve emerged as a solid musical force for many years yet Sandwich still manage to take care of each other even after they’ve created each other’s own individual scenes with specific sounds through other bands. “You have to take care of your group. In all our band that’s the major thing dapat, that you have to take care of the people also and you would have to have enough love to take a bullet for them no matter what, parang pamilya mo na ito eh, kasama mo on the road, same van, same hotel, same airport. If you hate them it won’t work,” says Rayms. They confessed spending more quality time together more than their own family and love ones beyond music.
As Sandwich always supported other bands who then become a family to them, they believed that patronizing the whole OPM team is the key to success. “Having more than one band gets you to do other things with different people, play with other artists and enriches you as a person and as an artist” adds Myrene.
Sandwich is Raymund Marasigan (Vocals, Guitar), Myrene Academia (Bass, Backing Vocals), Diego Castillo (Guitar, Backing Vocals), Mong Alcaraz (Guitar, Backing Vocals) and Mike Dizon (Drums). Sandwich’s new album Fat, Salt and Flame is now available for downloads on mymusicstore and iTunes. CD is now available nationwide exclusively at AstroPlus/Astrovision released by PolyEast Records.

Isang layunin

Isang tinig, isang lahi, isang awitin
Itaas ang lakas ng bandala ng pusong Pilipino
Oooooh”

Kaisa kami sa pagsulong, pagbuhay at pagpapatatag ng orihinal na musikang Filipino. Mabuhay ang OPM!
